Fully Funded PhD in Building Energy Performance at CEPT University (Climate-Responsive Design, Indoor Air Quality, Low Energy Cooling, Lighting, Urban Heat)

CEPT University’s Faculty of Technology, in collaboration with the Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE), is offering a fully funded PhD position in the Building Energy Performance (BEP) stream for the Monsoon/July 2026 intake. This doctoral opportunity is designed for candidates passionate about advancing research in climate-responsive building design, construction, and operation, as well as indoor air/environmental quality, low energy cooling systems, daylighting and artificial lighting, and urban heat and health. The program is housed at one of India’s leading centers for building construction, engineering, and research, providing a rich empirical context and strong global connections. The PhD in Technology at CEPT University is a rigorous, four-and-a-half-year program that integrates advanced theoretical and methodological training with hands-on research. The first year is devoted to full-time, in-residence coursework, after which students undergo a qualifying examination and, upon success, develop a detailed doctoral research proposal. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue, faculty mentorship, and access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in academia, advanced research organizations, international development, and techno-policy-oriented professional practice. Key research areas include climate-responsive building design, construction materials, project management, automation and lean construction, and building energy performance. The BEP stream specifically focuses on innovative solutions for sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, addressing both present and future challenges in the built environment. Doctoral research fellowships are available, including the President’s Scholarship and CARBSE fellowships, which provide full funding, tuition coverage, and a stipend. Two seats are available for the BEP stream in the Faculty of Technology. Applicants should hold a relevant master’s degree (such as in architecture, engineering, or related fields) and demonstrate strong academic credentials, research aptitude, and alignment with the program’s focus areas. English language proficiency and a research proposal may be required. The application deadline is March 20, 2026. For pre-admission consultation, interested candidates may contact [email protected].
