PhD Position in Physical Chemistry: Nanostructured TiO2 Photocatalysts and Nitroconversion

The Chair of Physical Chemistry III at the University of Bayreuth, under the supervision of Professor Roland Marschall, is offering a PhD position as part of the DFG-funded Priority Program “Nitroconversion” (SPP2370). The research focuses on the use of nanostructured TiO2 photocatalysts as solar battery materials for subsequent dark conversion reactions, with a primary emphasis on nitrogen reduction. The project involves comprehensive material characterization using techniques such as elemental analysis, electron microscopy, XRD, IR, Raman, TGA, and sorption methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for documenting, evaluating, and publishing the research results, and will have the opportunity to pursue a doctorate alongside the project work. Applicants should hold a diploma or MSc in chemistry or materials science. Experience with sol-gel chemistry, electrospinning, photocatalysis, and semiconductor material characterization is advantageous. The project encourages academic exchange with other research groups, so strong English skills and excellent communication abilities are required. The University of Bayreuth values diversity and is committed to gender equality, welcoming applications from women and those with children. Persons with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration if equally qualified. The position is funded for three years with a salary based on E13 TV-L 50%. The application deadline is 31 December 2025, and the position can start from 1 January 2026 or later. Interested candidates should apply online via the University of Bayreuth application portal using the keyword “Nitroconversion.” For further information, applicants may contact Professor Roland Marschall at [email protected]. Key research areas include physical chemistry, materials science, photocatalysis, nanostructured materials, and advanced characterization techniques. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of chemistry and materials science, with a focus on innovative energy conversion processes.
