The Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM) at Tohoku University is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers or specially appointed assistant professors to join the Prof. Janek Lab. The research focus is on solid-state ionics and solid-state batteries, with the aim of developing high-performance battery materials and elucidating fundamental mechanisms. The position is part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary initiative addressing urgent societal challenges such as energy sustainability and environmental preservation. Successful candidates will work closely with Prof. Jürgen Janek and other leading researchers at IMRAM, including Prof. Itaru Homma, Assoc. Prof. Saneyuki Ohno, Prof. Koji Amezawa, and Assoc. Prof. Yuta Kimura. Research activities will include the development of new materials and energy conversion devices, as well as advanced operando analysis using synchrotron radiation. The project is associated with the 'University for International Research Excellence' initiative, positioning Tohoku University as a global research hub for next-generation energy technologies. The position offers an annual salary starting from 5 million yen, with benefits such as transportation expenses, health insurance, pension, and employment insurance. The contract is nontenured and non-tenure track, running until March 31, 2027, with annual renewal based on performance. The work location is at the IMRAM, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. Applicants must have a PhD by the start date, a strong record of research in solid-state batteries or ionics, and native or near-native English proficiency. Application materials include a CV with photo, list of research achievements, summary of past research, and references. Applications must be submitted as a single PDF via the provided Google Form by February 28, 2026. The selection process may include a presentation, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
