Research Assistant, MASc, and PhD Positions in Structural Mechanics, Composite Materials, and Advanced Manufacturing
The Structural Analytics & Regenerative Design of Advanced Resilient Structures (SARDAR’S) Lab at the University of Victoria invites applications for multiple Research Assistant, MASc, and PhD positions in the Department of Civil Engineering. The research team focuses on the design, optimization, and performance evaluation of composite structural systems using experimental testing and computational modeling across multiple length scales. Projects address key challenges in advancing sustainable, resilient, and digitally enabled design for buildings and infrastructure in Canada.
These positions offer a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of design, manufacturing, testing, and advanced simulation. Trainees will gain broad technical exposure in structural mechanics, materials engineering, and optimization, as well as valuable experience in applied, industry-relevant research on innovative structural materials and systems. The lab collaborates with leading academic and industry partners, providing opportunities to present work at national and international conferences and participate in skill-building workshops.
Ideal candidates should have a strong academic background in civil, mechanical, or materials engineering, with interest in structural mechanics and advanced manufacturing. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are required. Experience or strong interest in large-scale testing, digital fabrication, or finite element modeling is an asset. International students may need to provide IELTS or TOEFL scores.
Funding packages are available and commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience. The preferred start date is April 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. To apply, complete the online application form and, if shortlisted, submit your CV, transcripts, statement of interest, and references.
