Consent Under Non-Ideal Circumstances

A funded PhD opportunity is available at the University of York in the field of Philosophy, focusing on the project 'Consent Under Non-Ideal Circumstances.' The research will explore the nature and importance of consent, what constitutes morally valid consent, and how consent is communicated, especially in challenging contexts such as unjust social structures and experiential difficulties. The project aims to inform better practices for respecting consent, particularly in maternity services during pregnancy, labour, and birth. The position is co-supervised by Dr Hannah Carnegy-Arbuthnott and Prof. Stephen Holland from the University of York, along with Dr Nadia Higson from AIMS (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services). The role is funded through a WRoCAH Collaborative Doctoral Award, which typically covers tuition and provides a stipend.
