A postdoctoral research associate position in Synthetic Organic/Medicinal Chemistry is available in the Division of Biochemistry at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Professor Yongcheng Song, whose research focuses on the discovery and development of novel small molecule inhibitors targeting biologically important proteins for the treatment of cancer, stroke, and infectious diseases. The lab employs a multidisciplinary approach combining compound screening, rational drug design, medicinal chemistry, biochemical and physical studies (including X-ray and NMR), and biological activity testing (in vitro and in vivo). Current projects include the development of chemical probes for epigenetic proteins and aberrant gene expression in cancer, inhibitors of protein-protein interactions critical to leukemia and other cancers, and drug discovery efforts targeting viral proteases from SARS-CoV-2, Zika, Dengue, and West Nile viruses. The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for designing and synthesizing compounds as potential inhibitors or chemical probes, analyzing experimental data, and preparing technical reports and manuscripts. Training will be provided in computational drug design, biochemistry, and cell biology techniques for compound activity testing. Applicants should have recently obtained a PhD or MD in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field, with a preferred background in organic chemistry and a strong publication record. The position offers a competitive salary up to $66,492 per year and is fully funded. Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Equal Access Employer. Interested candidates should apply online and review the PI’s research profile for further information.
