About this position
The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), in partnership with the British Council, is offering five fully funded scholarships for women from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam to pursue a one-year, full-time master's degree in the UK. This initiative, part of the British Council Women in STEM scholarship programme, aims to support women in science, technology, engineering, and medicine (STEM) by removing financial barriers and promoting gender diversity and leadership in these fields.
Eligible master's programs at LSTM include various specializations in public health and tropical medicine, such as Master of Public Health (Humanitarian Health), Master of Public Health (International), Master of Public Health (Managing Health Services), Master of Public Health (Outbreak Control and Health Protection), Master of Public Health (Sexual and Reproductive Health), MRes Tropical Health and Infectious Diseases Research, MSc One Health in Tropical Disease, MSc Tropical Disease Biology, and MSc Tropical and Infectious Diseases. These programs are designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills to address global health challenges, particularly in tropical and infectious diseases, and to foster leadership among women in STEM.
The scholarship covers full tuition fees, a monthly maintenance stipend for living and accommodation costs (up to 12 months), return economy class travel to the UK, visa, insurance/NHS surcharge, and other related costs. Applicants must be women as defined under UK law, hold a passport and be a permanent resident of one of the eligible countries, and possess an undergraduate degree suitable for entry to a master's program at LSTM. Additional requirements include demonstrating academic motivation, a commitment to capacity building, and meeting the English language requirements of the chosen program. Applicants must not be in receipt of other UK study funding and must agree to return to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship.
To apply, candidates should first apply for an eligible master's program at LSTM via the MyLSTM online application portal. Upon receiving a conditional offer, applicants will be provided with a link to the scholarship application form, which must be completed and submitted by 9am on Thursday, 30 April 2026. The application requires a statement (up to 700 words) demonstrating suitability for the scholarship, relevant work experience or interest, future contributions to capacity building, and plans to engage other women and girls in STEM. Late applications will not be accepted.
This opportunity is ideal for women passionate about public health, tropical medicine, infectious diseases, and advancing gender equality in STEM. For more information, visit the LSTM website or the British Council's Women in STEM Scholarships page.
