Includes €1,300 monthly stipend, travel allowance, accident, health, and personal liability insurance, research allowance (€460/year for emerging countries, €230/year for industrialized countries), and funding for stays abroad and field studies (up to 25% of total funding period).

What's required

Applicants must possess a qualified university degree (master’s or equivalent) in social or political science, law, development management, economics, or related subjects. The overall grade should be equivalent to 2.7 (fully satisfactory) in the German grading system after at least 4 years of study, or 1.3 (very good) after at least 3 years plus 3 semesters of preparatory studies. Admission is competitive and based on academic references, quality of research proposal, English proficiency (IELTS Band 7, TOEFL iBT 94, or Duolingo 125+), relevance and grades of previous studies. Two recommendation letters, CV, transcripts, and a motivation letter are required. Applicants must not have lived in Germany for more than 15 months before nomination and must have completed their last degree no longer than 6 years before nomination.
