The Scuola Superiore Meridionale (SSM) in Naples, Italy, offers a unique opportunity for ambitious graduate students to pursue a PhD in a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment. Each scholarship provides €19,000 per year (before social contributions), paid in monthly instalments. For previously authorized research stays abroad, the scholarship may be increased by up to 50% for a maximum of 12 months. Additionally, a research budget is provided: 10% of the yearly scholarship in the first year and 20% in the subsequent three years. This funding structure ensures that students have the financial support and resources needed to focus on their research and professional development.

Eligibility requires a five-year university degree, equivalent to a master's. The selection process includes a thorough assessment of qualifications and an interview, typically held in early September.
