The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is inviting applications for the International Research Summer School (IRSS) 2026, a prestigious two-week PhD exploratory programme held on campus in Hong Kong from 29 June to 9 July 2026. This fully funded opportunity is designed for high-achieving international senior undergraduate and Master's students from all disciplines who aspire to pursue a research degree and an academic career. Participants will engage directly with PolyU professors and researchers, access state-of-the-art research facilities, and explore interdisciplinary research and PhD pathways. The programme offers immersive campus life, cultural experiences, and the chance to build a global academic network with peers from over 20 countries.
Exceptional participants may be nominated for PhD admission under the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) or other scholarships worth up to HK$1.7 million. Additionally, outstanding students may be selected for a one-month sponsored research mentorship with a PolyU professor following the Summer School, with an extra living allowance provided.
All participants receive a comprehensive support package, including free accommodation at the Student Hall, a cash allowance of up to HK$10,000 to support travel costs, and a full subsidy of visa/entry permit fees. The application fee is HK$500, non-refundable. Participants are responsible for their own travel, meals, and insurance costs. The programme is conducted entirely in English and requires in-person attendance.
Eligibility criteria include being a full-time penultimate or final year undergraduate or a full-time Master's student, proficiency in English, and the ability to attend all sessions in person. Selection is based on academic excellence, research ability, English proficiency, and personal qualities. Required application documents include academic transcripts, degree certificates, CV, application letter, English test scores (if any), merit certificates (if any), passport-size photo, and proof of application fee payment, all in English and combined into a single PDF under 5MB.
The application deadline is 25 February 2026 (12:00 noon, Hong Kong Time). For more information and to apply, visit the PolyU IRSS website.
