About this position

The University of Jyväskylä’s Faculty of Information Technology is recruiting two Doctoral Researchers for the GenAIDE (Generative AI for Industrial Design Engineering) Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network, funded by the European Union. The project aims to advance collaborative AI systems for next-generation industrial engineering design, with research spanning artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational engineering, and applied mathematics. As part of a network of 14 doctoral candidates and 16 leading academic and industrial partners, selected researchers will have opportunities for long-term visits to partner institutions and will spend at least 50% of their fellowship in the non-academic sector.

The position is fixed-term for 3+1 years, starting April 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary is based on MSCA regulations, offering a gross monthly salary of 3400 €/month for three years, plus mobility and possible family allowances, with the fourth year paid according to the university’s collective agreement. There are no tuition fees. Candidates must hold or be about to obtain an excellent M.Sc. in Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering, and demonstrate strong motivation for research in generative AI for engineering, multi-objective optimization, and machine learning.

Required skills include computational engineering, engineering mathematics, computer aided design, and programming in Python (C++/C is an advantage). High intercultural competence and willingness to work in international teams are essential, as is proficiency in English. Applicants must not have resided in Finland for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to recruitment and must be early stage researchers (first four years of research career, no doctoral degree).

The position offers participation in a prestigious European doctoral network, international collaboration, and excellent working conditions in Finland, known for its high standard of living and vibrant student life. The University of Jyväskylä is committed to diversity, inclusion, and the principles of HR Excellence in Research. Applications are welcome from all qualified candidates regardless of background.
