About this position

We are looking for a PhD student starting next year. The project will be focused on the robust design of critical aero-engine structures due to extreme load cases. It will be funded by EPSRC iCASE studentship and Rolls Royplc plc.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage with Rolls-Royce engineers on several levels throughout the project, including a 3-month secondment to the company, which will offer a unique insight into the industrial realities of gas turbine engineering and maximise the wider impact of the research. The project will also be co-supervised by Rolls Royce industrial specialists. In addition to the basic tax-free student stipend of £18,198 p.a.(2023-2024 rate), Rolls-Royce will provide a further tax-free stipend increment up to £9,000 p.a., which will bring the total stipend in line with their graduate recruitment schemes. The stipend will rise in subsequent years. Funding for travel to international conferences will be available.
