About this position

The Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim invites applications for its Alliance Interinstitutional Postdoctoral Positions, designed for outstanding early career postdoctoral scientists and clinician scientists. This unique opportunity supports bridging projects between two or more partner institutions within the Alliance, fostering innovative, collaborative research across disciplines. Successful candidates will receive full funding for two-year postdoctoral positions at Alliance institutions, with start dates ranging from August 1, 2026 to January 1, 2027.

Applicants are required to submit their own research project proposal, which must be supervised by at least two principal investigators (PIs) from different Alliance institutions. Candidates may choose from a selection of innovative, interinstitutional project outlines proposed by Alliance project leaders, or define their own project independent of these outlines, provided the supervision criteria are met. Prior contact with the chosen Alliance PIs is mandatory, and a letter of support signed by these PIs must accompany the application.

The Alliance primarily supports basic and translational research in a wide array of fields, including cancer research, cardiovascular research, neuropsychiatric diseases, genomics, synthetic immunology, molecular engineering, medical technologies, and novel applications of artificial intelligence in health and life science research. Additional areas of interest include bioengineering, biomedicine, clinical sciences, cardiology, immunology, medical technology, vascular medicine, neuroscience, psychiatry and psychology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biotechnology, computational biology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, human biology, microbiology, structural biology, systems biology, virology, biochemistry, big data, computational sciences, biosystems engineering, chemical engineering, addiction medicine, endocrinology, hematology, infectious diseases, medical imaging, nutrition and dietetics, radiology, cognitive psychology, and neuropsychology.

Eligibility requirements include holding a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in a relevant area of research by no later than four months after the submission deadline. Applicants should not have worked for more than four months as a postdoctoral researcher or clinician scientist at Alliance institutions co-supervising the selected or proposed project at the time of submission. A minimum of one first author paper is required. The application process involves preparing a research project proposal, contacting the relevant Alliance PIs, and securing a letter of support.

Applications must be submitted online via the Alliance website by March 31, 2026, 5 pm CEST. For further details and to access the application portal, visit https://www.health-life-sciences.de/postdocs.
