About this position
The battle against Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is entering an exciting phase with the development of gene therapies aimed at reducing pathogenic proteins. Our team has developed a first-generation therapy showing promising results in reducing levels of such proteins in cell and animal models. This project represents a unique opportunity to build on these findings by examining and refining this therapy to enhance its efficacy and understand its mechanism of action.
Project Objectives:
- To evaluate the specific mechanisms by which our gene therapy facilitates the clearance of pathogenic proteins, both in vitro and in vivo.
- To investigate how the therapy affects the hallmark protein in MND, TDP-43, throughout the disease's progression and assess potential refinements to our therapeutic strategy to increase its effectiveness.
We Are Looking For: An enthusiastic candidate with a strong background in molecular or cell biology and/or experience in working with mouse models. The ideal candidate will be skilled in:
- Cell culture techniques.
- Adeno-associated virus (AAV) handling.
- In vivo mouse work, including delivery mechanisms and motor phenotype assessment.
- Histological analysis.
- Small molecule research methodologies.
What We Offer:
- The chance to contribute to pioneering MND research with the potential to significantly impact the development of treatments.
- A dynamic research environment with support for professional development.
- Access to state-of-the-art facilities and tools for conducting high-level scientific research.
- Inclusive and stimulating environment.
This PhD scholarship provides a unique platform for a passionate researcher to delve into the intricacies of gene therapy for MND, aiming to close the gap in our understanding of its therapeutic mechanisms and improve treatment outcomes for individuals affected by this devastating condition.
Join us in advancing the frontier of MND therapy and making a tangible difference in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases.
Note : Applications and enquiries must include a targeted cover letter, up-to-date CV, and clear outline what the applicant can contribute to the research program. General requests without sufficient evidence and documentation will not be considered.
