About this position

The Digi4Age Doctoral Network, titled 'Future Leaders in Ageing and Digitalizing Societies,' offers an exciting opportunity for 14 PhD students to join a fully funded research programme across Europe. Organized by LUT University and five other leading research institutes, this network is supported by the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action programme of the European Commission. The initiative aims to train doctoral researchers as future leaders with expertise in both ageing and digitalization, equipping them to creatively steer academia, the public sector, private sector, and civil society towards innovative solutions for older individuals, European societies, and businesses.

The research focus spans changes in health and long-term care, work and the economy, and society and social structures. The positions are interdisciplinary, covering social sciences, humanities, business, health sciences, and care research. Employment conditions include a 3-4 year PhD contract with social security coverage, a competitive MSCA salary, and additional mobility and family allowances where applicable. Researchers benefit from interdisciplinary supervision, training in cutting-edge techniques and methods, participation in three spring schools and a seminar series, and secondments with both academic and non-academic partners. The programme also provides strong career development support and extensive opportunities for international networking.

Eligibility requirements include a master-level degree in a relevant discipline (such as sociology, political science, social work, business, health sciences, or economics), compliance with the MSCA mobility rule, and not holding a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment. Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in ageing and digitalization and possess good written and spoken English skills. Additional requirements may apply depending on the hosting institution’s doctoral programme.

To apply, candidates must submit an online application by 30 March 2026, including a motivation letter, CV, master’s degree certificate (or transcript if not yet completed), one scientific text in English, and an essay outlining their doctoral thesis ideas. Further details and position-specific requirements are available on the project homepage. Applications sent by email will not be processed. For more information, contact [email protected].
