About this position

Ghent University is seeking a doctoral fellow to join the BIOFRAME project within the Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction and Population Medicine. This Horizon Europe initiative aims to co-develop a practical biosecurity framework for non-intensive animal farming, with a focus on improving animal health, welfare, and economic sustainability. The project also includes the development of a bioeconomic model to help farmers quantify the financial impact of biosecurity measures. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team, engaging in project management, communication and reporting among partners, developing tailored biosecurity frameworks, conducting interviews and focus groups, implementing pilot studies, co-leading dissemination and knowledge exchange activities, and organizing training events and workshops for stakeholders. The position is designed to lead to a doctoral degree. Applicants must have a Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field, with strong English communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively. Experience in international environments, project management, research-focused activities, Dutch language skills (or willingness to learn), and programming skills in R or other statistical software are desirable. The fellowship is full-time, initially for 12 months and extendable up to 48 months upon positive evaluation. The salary is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority, and is tax-free. Ghent University offers extensive staff benefits, including training opportunities, generous holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers. The contract will start on December 1, 2025 at the earliest. Interested candidates should send their CV, Master's diploma, and motivation letter to the provided emails, using the specified application title. For further information, contact Prof. Dr. Ilias Chantziaras. The application deadline is September 15, 2025.
