The Department of Communication and Arts at Roskilde University is offering several fully funded PhD positions starting September 1, 2026. These positions are part of the Doctoral School of Communication and Arts (DCA), which covers a wide range of research areas including Communication, Media and Communication, Journalism, Danish, Philosophy, History, and Cultural Encounters. The department is known for its interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Communication, Cultural Studies, Social Science, and Humanities, and provides a dynamic, innovative environment for PhD fellows.

PhD students will be part of an active academic community, participating in international PhD courses, master classes, writing retreats, and seminars. Each PhD fellow is assigned two supervisors from different research groups within the department, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The program encourages engagement with both national and international research networks and offers opportunities for teaching at both MA and BA levels, with a focus on research-based and problem-oriented project work.

Applicants are expected to propose original research projects that align with or enhance the department’s research fields. The project description should be up to 5 pages and include the research topic, objectives, state-of-the-art, methods, empirical material, theoretical approaches, ethical considerations, and a schedule. Candidates should reflect on how their project fits with current departmental research and suggest possible supervisors.

Eligibility requirements include a relevant Master’s degree or equivalent, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to complete a PhD project. The positions are fully funded for three years, with employment terms governed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
