About this position
We would be looking for one postdoc and one Ph.D. student who are interested to contribute to building machine learning models to revolutionise vision care and eye sciences. If you have a background in machine learning and you would like to use your knowledge to enhance healthcare, then do write to us. Note that the ML work is related to tabular data rather than images/simulations only.
Background: Ophthalmology is one of the busiest divisions of the NHS. There are over 650K patients today on a backlog, i.e. ~10% of the entire NHS backlog. Average waiting times are >2 months with just 64% patients being seen within a standard 18-week window. In general the Ophthalmology supports around 0.5M operations per year (about 6% of NHS) with >7.5M outpatient appointments.
