The Kristensen Group at the Biotech Research and Innovation Center (BRIC), University of Copenhagen, and Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet, is recruiting for a PhD fellowship or Postdoc position in brain tumor bioinformatics, commencing March 2026. This opportunity is ideal for ambitious bioinformaticians interested in cancer biology, computational analysis, and translational medicine, with a particular focus on the spatial organization of the tumor microenvironment and its impact on brain tumor aggressiveness and therapy response.
The research group, led by Professor Bjarne Winther Kristensen, specializes in understanding how the tumor microenvironment influences brain tumor behavior, especially in glioblastoma. Projects involve working with patient tumor tissue, experimental in vitro and in vivo models, and advanced bioinformatics. The main tasks include bioinformatic investigation of tumor cells and microenvironment in histologically distinct glioblastoma samples, correlation with clinical outcomes, and analysis of samples from patient-derived animal models. Cutting-edge spatial transcriptomics technologies are used to measure gene expression within intact tumor sections, preserving spatial relationships between malignant, stromal, and immune cells.
Applicants should have a background in biological sciences and documented experience in high-plex spatial transcriptomics or single-cell/nuclei RNA sequencing, as well as proficiency in R or Python. Qualifications must correspond to an MD or a master’s degree equivalent to a Danish two-year master’s degree in relevant fields such as human biology, neuroimmunology, or bioinformatics. For postdoc applicants, a relevant PhD thesis is required. Additional assessment criteria include grade point average, professional qualifications, previous publications, work experience, other professional activities, a strong interest in brain tumor biology, and language skills.
