About this position

The University of Oslo announces new PhD and postdoctoral fellowships as part of the UiO Real-World Evidence (UiO:RWE) initiative, an interdisciplinary research environment focused on generating real-world evidence on the effectiveness and safety of pharmaceuticals. The initiative leverages Norway’s world-class health registries, clinical trial data, and advanced analytics to improve patient outcomes, inform regulatory decisions, and strengthen public trust in medicines.

The available positions are:

  • PhD Fellowship in Pharmacovigilance (4 years)
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pharmacoepidemiology (3 years)

Research areas include pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, health data science, medication safety, biostatistics, and machine learning. The UiO:RWE team unites experts in pharmacology, epidemiology, biostatistics, machine learning, and clinical research, with a focus on monoclonal antibodies and new vaccines for autoimmune, neurological, and infectious diseases. The project aims to assess both effectiveness (e.g., relapse prevention, infection control) and safety (e.g., rare or delayed adverse events) of innovative therapies.

Key objectives are to develop a secure, scalable data analytical platform and apply advanced causal inference and machine learning methods to real-world studies. The research will identify high-risk patient groups, predict adverse events, and inform personalized treatment strategies. The initiative is funded by UiO:Life Science and is based in the new LifeScience building at the University of Oslo.

Applicants for the PhD position should have a relevant master's degree (e.g., pharmacy, medicine, epidemiology, statistics), while postdoctoral candidates must have completed a PhD in a related field. Experience with health data analysis, biostatistics, pharmacoepidemiology, or pharmacovigilance is highly desirable. Proficiency in English is required. Both positions are fully funded, with salary and research resources provided.

Application deadline is 26 February 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the official job postings or contact Professor Hedvig Marie Nordeng at [email protected].
