Kristiania University of Applied Sciences, Norway's largest independent comprehensive university college, is offering a fully funded PhD fellowship in Applied Information Technology with a focus on AI-enabled Automated Software Testing. This PhD position is designed for candidates interested in investigating the integration of AI-enabled automated software tools within industrial software development and maintenance processes. The research will address both technical and process-oriented aspects, including the development, deployment, and performance of AI-enabled automated testing tools, their impact on software quality, and the adaptation of software processes to leverage these tools. Key challenges include ensuring the quality and accuracy of AI-enabled tools, their fit within existing workflows, and the measurement of their effectiveness in real-world settings.

The successful candidate will design and conduct empirical studies in both academic and industrial contexts, develop tools for interpreting and displaying results from AI-enabled software testing, and measure their suitability for integration into software development processes. Dissemination of research findings in top-tier Software Engineering conferences and journals, as well as collaboration with industry and academic partners, is expected.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (120 ECTS or equivalent) in a relevant field with a grade B or better, and a master’s thesis of at least 30 ECTS. A relevant 180 ECTS bachelor’s degree is also required. Strong programming and software development skills, empirical research capabilities, analytical thinking, and proficiency in English are essential. Preferred qualifications include experience in software testing, automation, software processes, technical debt evaluation, software maintenance, and familiarity with AI applications in software development. Personal qualities such as curiosity, motivation for independent interdisciplinary research, and strong communication and cooperation skills are highly valued.

The fellowship offers a competitive salary (NOK 550,800 per year), NOK 50,000 annually for travel and running costs, free health and travel insurance, pension plan, and equipment such as a high-end laptop and mobile subscription. Norwegian labour laws ensure generous paid parental and sick leave, and 25 paid vacation days. The PhD period is three years, with the earliest start date of 01.09.2026. The working location is Oslo, providing access to urban amenities and recreational spaces.
