Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) is offering a three-year PhD fellowship in Development Studies at the Department of International Studies and Interpreting, with the possibility of a fourth year including teaching and administrative duties. The position is part of the Section for Development Studies, which provides education at the bachelor and master levels and conducts research on global issues, with a particular focus on the global south. Research themes include development, environment and sustainability, the role of education in development processes, global resource distribution, health, gender, religion, power structures, and social inequality.

The successful candidate will join an engaged and internationally oriented academic environment, participate in the research group 'Development, Power and Inequality' (UMU), and the faculty's PhD program. The fellowship includes opportunities for research stays abroad, subject to application. Admission to the PhD program in Educational Science for Teacher Education is required, and the final research training plan must be approved within three months of starting.

Applicants must submit a comprehensive project proposal within the section's research areas, demonstrating strong background knowledge of the topic and any countries where fieldwork is planned. The proposal should address research questions, theoretical and methodological approaches, knowledge gaps, planned publications, and a timeline. A digital seminar to assist with project proposal writing is available. Candidates must have a master's degree in development studies or a related field, with a grade B or better on the thesis, or equivalent academic achievement.

Scientific publication or R&D experience is required, as are strong oral and written skills in a Scandinavian language or English. Experience with fieldwork, regional expertise in the global south or Norway, and interdisciplinary research are advantageous. Personal suitability, motivation, independence, and collaboration skills are emphasized.
