The PhD in Nanosciences at Osnabrück University offers an interdisciplinary research environment, drawing on expertise from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Materials Science. The programme is designed to impart in-depth specialised knowledge in current fields of nanoscience research, while encouraging students to engage with problems across scientific disciplines. Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary aspects, with a curriculum that includes lectures, seminars, colloquiums, workshops, and discussion groups. Each PhD student is assigned an individual supervisor who monitors academic progress and provides guidance throughout the programme. The International Graduate School of Science (IGS) coordinates teaching units and designs multidisciplinary lectures and seminars, enhancing the breadth of doctoral studies. The programme is taught in English, making it accessible to international students. While German language skills are not required, they are helpful, and German courses are offered at various levels. Tuition fees are waived, but students must pay a semester contribution of approximately 350 EUR, which includes free use of regional public transport. Living costs are estimated at a minimum of 860 EUR per month, covering accommodation, health insurance, books, and miscellaneous expenses. The university does not offer funding opportunities for this programme, so students are responsible for their own financial support.

Applicants must hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, or a related field. Good knowledge of English is mandatory for participation in research and academic activities. The application deadlines are 15 January for the summer semester and 15 July for the winter semester.
