About this position

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU), through the Mads Clausen Institute and the POLIMA Center for Polariton-driven Light-Matter Interactions, is offering a fully funded PhD position focused on polariton-driven light–matter interactions. The research will involve developing new theoretical and experimental frameworks for understanding and manipulating light–matter interactions in advanced nanostructures. Key activities include the design and simulation of nanophotonic devices using analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical methods, as well as the fabrication of devices and conducting low-temperature optical spectroscopy and electronic transport experiments. The project sits at the interface of quantum optoelectronics theory and experiment, providing opportunities to engage with an international network of collaborators within POLIMA.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in condensed-matter physics, optics, nanofabrication, or a related field, and should be motivated to work in both experimental and theoretical research. Strong analytical skills and a keen interest in quantum optoelectronics are essential. The research group offers an international, ambitious, and supportive environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive assistance for international candidates, including help with housing, visa, and administrative matters.

The position is fully funded for three years, with a competitive salary of 36,608 DKK per month (including pension), and may be higher for candidates with relevant experience. Social benefits such as health coverage, parental leave, and social security are included. Applicants are required to submit a motivated cover letter, CV, degree certificates and transcripts, TEK PhD application forms (for 5+3 applicants), a list of up to two relevant publications, references, and any other relevant qualifications. All documents must be in English and in PDF format, and applications must be submitted through the SDU online portal by 15 March 2026.

For further information, candidates may contact Assistant Professor Nicolas Ubrig at [email protected].
