This research will address key scientific challenges by developing and numerically implementing a coupled poro-hydro-chemo-mechanical model. The model will simulate the complex interactions between supercritical CO2, brine, and caprock, including scenarios involving mineral dissolution, precipitation, and changes in mechanical properties. The work will utilize the LAGAMINE Finite Element code and involve tasks such as modeling two-phase visco-capillary flow, updating chemo-mechanical subroutines, and simulating laboratory-scale test cases.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in continuum and computational mechanics, with advanced programming skills (Python, Matlab, possibly FORTRAN). The project offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with experimental researchers and contribute to the development of practical tools for assessing the safety and effectiveness of geological CO2 storage.
