About this position
The UCL Centre for AI and UCL Computer Science are offering three fully funded PhD opportunities as part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Cyber-Physical Risk. This prestigious program is designed for researchers passionate about tackling the security challenges at the intersection of multimodal foundational models and agentic AI ecosystems. Students will contribute to critical defense strategies against cyber-attacks using advanced hybrid network modeling, focusing on the security of interconnected physical and digital systems that underpin modern infrastructure.
The three projects cover: (1) attack and defense of systems using multimodal models, (2) hybrid risks in autonomous agentic AI ecosystems, and (3) securing cyber-physical systems through innovative hybrid network modeling. The CDT fosters interdisciplinary research, drawing expertise from computer science, engineering, crime science, and more, and is supported by industry partners such as the UK Home Office, Amazon, and Yorkshire Water. Students will have access to real-world research opportunities and collaborative environments.
Applicants should have a strong background in computer science, artificial intelligence, or related fields, and be motivated to bridge theoretical AI with practical cybersecurity. Fully funded studentships are available for UK home applicants, covering tuition and stipend. The application deadline is 15 February 2026. Prospective candidates are encouraged to review the project details and contact the lead supervisor for informal discussions. For more information and to apply, visit the official UCL CDT website.
