ETH Zurich’s Chair of Strategic Management and Innovation (SMI) invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in AI and Strategy. This opportunity is part of an SNSF-funded research project exploring the transformative role of artificial intelligence in organizational strategy. The research aims to understand how AI can support and reshape strategic processes within organizations, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical management solutions.
The SMI Chair, led by Prof. Dr. Georg von Krogh, is renowned for its dynamic, international research environment and a strong publication record in top-tier journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, and Strategic Management Journal. PhD candidates will benefit from close supervision, collaboration with leading faculty and senior researchers, and access to ETH Zurich’s world-class research infrastructure and international network.
The position is fully funded for up to four years, offering a competitive salary and excellent employment conditions in accordance with ETH Zurich regulations. The successful candidate will be expected to produce a dissertation comprising at least three high-quality papers targeted at leading academic journals, advancing research in management, strategy, and AI.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Management or a related discipline (e.g., Management Engineering, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or Economics with a management focus), awarded within the past two years. A strong academic record, outstanding Master thesis or equivalent research potential, and excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential. Experience with AI in business or organizational contexts and prior consulting or industry experience in strategy or management are advantageous.
