Description

The University of Gothenburg is offering a fully funded PhD position in Natural Science, specialising in Biology with a focus on Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, and Systems Glycobiology. The successful candidate will join the Bojar group, led by Dr. Daniel Bojar, which specializes in machine learning and systems glycobiology. The research will center on developing new AI models and data science techniques to improve the processing and analysis of glycomics data, aiming to yield new functional insights into systems glycobiology. Key responsibilities include improving AI models for glycomics data analysis, extending bioinformatics workflows to discover glycan-derived biomarker candidates, and developing enrichment analyses for glycan-related data. The position is predominantly computational, but opportunities for wet-lab involvement exist if desired. The project requires integration of experimental and computational methods and effective interdisciplinary communication. The PhD student will be encouraged to collaborate within and outside the group, present research at international conferences, and co-supervise undergraduate students. The position is financed by the Future Research Leaders 9 (FFL-9) program from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, offering four years of full-time doctoral study leading to a doctoral degree. Departmental duties, such as teaching and administration, may account for up to 20% of full-time employment and extend the study period accordingly. Eligibility requirements include a second-cycle (Master's) degree in a relevant natural science subject or equivalent qualifications, and proficiency in English (with TOEFL guidelines provided). Selection will prioritize candidates with documented experience in bioinformatics, Python programming, and glycobiology. The University of Gothenburg values diversity and equal conditions in the workplace. Applications must be submitted online by November 3, 2025. For further details, applicants can consult the Bojar lab website and the university's doctoral student pages.
