About this position
The University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (UCT Prague) is offering a PhD position in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry within the research group of Dr. Pavla Perlíková. The project focuses on the discovery and development of antimetastatic compounds, specifically migrastatics, which are a novel class of anticancer agents designed to suppress the metastatic behavior of tumor cells. The research aims to develop new inhibitors of actin polymerization using a rational design approach, targeting key regulatory proteins involved in cell migration, such as Mena and the Arp2/3 complex.
The successful candidate will engage in the synthesis of hit compounds identified by virtual screening, structural optimization of these compounds, and investigation of structure–activity relationships. The project is funded by the Czech Science Foundation and offers a PhD scholarship, employment contract, and the opportunity to work in a small, supportive research team.
Applicants should hold an MSc in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry, have experience in organic synthesis, demonstrate high motivation and independence, and possess a very good command of English. The application process requires a one-page motivation letter, a CV, and contact details for two referees. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with interviews scheduled between January and March 2026 and the expected start date in September 2026.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, anticancer drug discovery, and structure-activity relationship studies. The position provides a strong foundation for a research career in the field of anticancer therapeutics and drug design.
