About this position
The Department of Computer Science at Lund University, Sweden, is offering a fully funded PhD position in Computer Science with a focus on Sensor Fusion for Multi-task Learning. This opportunity is part of the ELLIIT strategic research environment, funded by the Swedish government, and is based within the Robotics and Semantic Systems (RSS) division. The division is renowned for its research in Robotics, AI, Intelligent Autonomous Systems, Robot Learning, Machine Learning, Human-Robot Interaction, and Natural Language Processing. The RSS division collaborates closely with the Department for Automatic Control and operates the RobotLab LTH, a state-of-the-art facility for robotics research and education.
The PhD project centers on developing advanced AI methods for multi-modal sensor fusion, such as integrating 2D RGB images and 3D point clouds, to optimize perception tasks like object detection and semantic segmentation. The research aims to enhance robot situational awareness in challenging environments and is conducted in collaboration with a research group at Linköping University. The project is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Eren E. Aksoy (Lund University) and Assoc. Prof. Gustaf Hendeby (Linköping University).
Applicants should have a strong background in Computer Science, AI, and Machine Learning, with solid mathematical and programming skills. Experience in robotics, robot perception, sensor fusion, semantic scene understanding, and familiarity with tools such as ROS/ROS2 and PyTorch are highly valued. The position requires a Master's degree or equivalent, excellent English proficiency, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
The PhD program includes participation in research projects, coursework, seminars, conferences, and teaching (up to 20% of working hours). The employment is full-time for four years, with a monthly salary and benefits, and may be extended for departmental duties. The successful candidate will have opportunities for travel, collaboration with academic and industrial partners, and participation in the annual ELLIIT Workshop.
Applications must be submitted online via the Lund University vacancies portal by March 6, 2026. Required documents include a CV, cover letter, degree certificates, transcripts, and any other supporting materials. Applications sent by email will not be considered. For more information, contact Assoc. Prof. Eren E. Aksoy at [email protected].
