About this position

A fully funded PhD position is available in the Behaviors of Individuals and Groups (BIG) lab at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. The research focuses on how social groups, networks, and segregation shape the spread of attitudes and behaviors, with a particular emphasis on social influence, group dynamics, and network analysis. The project investigates the diffusion of attitudes and behaviors such as prejudice, pro-environmental actions, and academic motivation, using longitudinal school network data and advanced quantitative and computational methods.

The position is based in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Studies, and offers a supportive, international research environment with opportunities for publishing, conference presentations, and career development. The successful candidate will work with longitudinal classroom network and survey data, contribute to data collection, conduct advanced quantitative analyses, and develop publishable papers. Training in network analysis (e.g., SAOM/RSiena) will be provided if needed.

Applicants should have or be completing a Master’s degree in psychology, sociology, political science, education, data science, or a related field, with strong quantitative skills and excellent English proficiency. Experience with network analysis is appreciated but not required. Willingness to relocate to Brno is necessary. The funding package includes a standard salary (32,000 CZK, taxed) and a PhD scholarship (16,000 CZK, tax-free) per month, with additional support for conference travel and career development. The application deadline is 15 March 2026, and the position starts in October 2026.

To apply, candidates should submit a motivation letter (max 2 pages) outlining research interests, project fit, quantitative background, and a concrete research idea, along with a CV, Master’s diploma (or expected completion), writing sample, and referee contacts via the electronic application link.
