About this position

The Laboratory of Synthetic Polymer Chemistry (LCPS) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, led by Professor Suong Nguyen, is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in Synthetic Polymer Chemistry. The research group focuses on the interface of polymer chemistry, catalysis, and synthetic organic chemistry, aiming to develop new polymerization methods, discover new reactivities, and create functional and sustainable polymers.

The group is part of the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Catalysis Center, providing access to seminars, conferences, and extensive networking opportunities. Applicants should hold a four-year Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm, self-motivation, creativity, and team spirit. Prior research experience in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, materials science, or related fields is required, with preference for those with experience in small molecule and polymer synthesis. Experience with standard structural characterization techniques (NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, chromatography) and material characterization techniques (GPC, tensile testing, rheology, DMA, DSC, TGA) is a plus but not mandatory. Good communication skills in English are essential.
