Join the University of Oslo as a PhD Research Fellow in men's health and family life at the Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences. This three-year, full-time position is part of an interdisciplinary team and is jointly supervised by the University of Oslo, the ERC HOMME grant (PI Vegard Skirbekk), and the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, the ERC Biosfer grant (PI Mikko Myrskyla). The successful candidate will utilize rich Norwegian population register data and large health studies to explore how men’s changing family and working lives influence their health and cognition.

The research agenda may include examining the health effects of men’s family participation, determinants of variation in men’s fertility and partnership trajectories, and the impact of gender roles, parental leave, and traditional community values on men’s life outcomes. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and international partners in Europe and North America, as well as part-time placement at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

The Department of Psychology at UiO is a vibrant academic environment with a large group of PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty, conducting research in health, developmental, and personality psychology. The position may be extended to a fourth year with 25% teaching or other career-promoting duties, depending on qualifications and departmental needs.

Funding and Benefits: The position offers a competitive salary (NOK 550,800 to 615,000 per year), membership in the Statens Pensjonskasse (Norwegian State Pension Fund), beneficial mortgage and insurance schemes, good welfare benefits, and career development opportunities. 2% of the salary is deducted for statutory pension contributions.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent in Demography, Economics, Sociology, Health Economics, Psychology, or a related field, with a grade point average of A or B (C may be considered individually). Admission to a UiO PhD programme within 3 months of start-up is required. Candidates must demonstrate advanced statistical skills (preferably in Stata and/or R), excellent academic results, strong analytical abilities, and proficiency in English. Interest in men’s health, family life, and interdisciplinary research is essential. Personal suitability, motivation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are important selection criteria.
