About this position
The Leuven Institute of Criminology (LINC), part of the Faculty of Law and Criminology at KU Leuven, offers a full-time PhD researcher position in criminal law and procedure. LINC is a vibrant research unit with around 70 professors, researchers, and assistants engaged in criminological research and teaching. The successful candidate will undertake doctoral research on a topic in criminal law and procedure, to be defined in consultation with the supervisor, Prof. dr. Michele Panzavolta. The position also includes limited teaching assistance in Leuven and Brussels.
Applicants must hold a Master of Law (5 years legal studies) or an equivalent diploma. Additional qualifications such as an LL.M. or advanced diplomas are advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic record, curiosity, creativity, independence, and motivation for legal research and dissertation writing. Strong academic writing skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team are essential. An excellent command of Dutch is required if the thesis will be written in Dutch, and proficiency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of other languages and prior academic research experience are considered assets.
The PhD position is initially offered for one year, with the possibility of extension up to four years, subject to performance and mutual agreement. Funding is provided for the duration of the contract, covering salary and research activities.
