About this position

The Jenal Lab at the Biozentrum, University of Basel, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher for a project in rational anti-biofilm drug development. This position focuses on structure-based design to develop new anti-biofilm compounds, starting from a resolved target–ligand complex in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The successful candidate will design and test next-generation molecules with broader activity against WHO priority pathogens, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Acinetobacter baumannii.

The research is at the interface of structural biology, microbiology, and chemistry, and is embedded within the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) AntiResist. The group uses state-of-the-art organoid technology, advanced microscopy, omics, and a variety of cellular and molecular microbiology assays to understand human infections and foster antibiotic discovery. The Biozentrum is a leading life sciences institute with a vibrant international research community and excellent infrastructure.

Applicants should have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Structural Biology, with relevant research experience. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension, and offers salary and benefits according to University of Basel standards. The application process requires a brief personal statement, CV, diplomas, and two reference letters. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
