About this position
This postdoctoral position at Radboud University offers an exciting opportunity to join the NWO Vici research project, focusing on 'Opportunities and challenges in children’s comprehension of multiple digital texts.' The project is entering its final phase, with a planned intervention study targeting upper primary grades. The research addresses the complexities children face when reading and integrating information from multiple online documents, including navigation difficulties and essay writing challenges. The intervention may include eye-movement-modelling examples and aims to improve digital reading comprehension among children.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will collaborate closely with a PhD candidate and student assistants to set up and conduct the intervention. You will analyze complex data, present findings at conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Knowledge transfer activities include writing for Dutch applied journals and co-authoring a book with the Dutch Centre for Language Education. You will be an active member of the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) in Nijmegen, participating in interdisciplinary research within the Learning, Education, & Development programme. BSI is renowned for its high-quality research, excellent facilities, and strong collaborations with non-academic partners. The institute fosters a warm, inclusive, and cooperative environment, supporting open science and team science.
Applicants must have or be about to obtain a PhD in behavioural or educational science, educational psychology, applied linguistics, or a related field, preferably with expertise in reading comprehension and reading processes. Experience in designing and conducting intervention studies at primary schools, proficiency in advanced statistical methods (e.g., R), and excellent oral and written skills in Dutch and English are required. Experience with eye-tracking and project management is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
The position offers a temporary two-year contract, with a gross monthly salary ranging from €4,728 to €6,433 (scale 11), based on a 38-hour week. Additional benefits include an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, extra days off, flexible annual leave (30 or 41 days), a good pension plan, sports and cultural discounts, and reimbursement for sports membership. Radboud University provides excellent support for work-life balance, flexible working hours, and opportunities for professional development.
