About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is a leading institution dedicated to research and innovation, with a strong commitment to advancing economic and human development in Africa. The university is located in Benguerir, at the heart of the Green City, and aspires to make a significant impact both nationally and globally through its unique partnership-based approach and focus on skills training for the future of Africa.
The African Genome Center (AGC) at UM6P is a research-focused hub operating across four main axes: Biodiversity Genomics, OMICS and Metabolic Engineering, Genome Editing, and Natural Product Chemistry and Metabolomics. AGC is equipped with advanced genomics platforms and serves as a central nucleus for genome biology research and training in Morocco and Africa. The center's mission is to democratize genomics research on the continent, supporting both fundamental and applied investigations in agriculture, conservation, environment, food security, and health. AGC also facilitates technology transfer and the training of highly skilled personnel.
This postdoctoral position is offered within the dynamic research group led by Professor Vittorio Venturi. The research program focuses on unraveling bacterial cell-cell signaling within plant microbiomes. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will analyze genomics and metagenomics data to dissect signaling systems of plant-associated bacteria and study the genomic features of beneficial bacterial strains. The work is at the intersection of genomics, microbiology, and agriculture, contributing to sustainable agricultural solutions and a deeper understanding of microbial interactions in plant ecosystems.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Microbial Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with documented expertise in bacteriology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and soil and rhizosphere microbial genomics. Proficiency in molecular biology laboratory techniques, a strong publication record in internationally recognized journals, and excellent English communication skills are essential.
To apply, submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact details for three references via the application link. For further information, contact Professor Vittorio Venturi at [email protected]. Explore more about the AGC at https://agc.um6p.ma.
