About this position

The University of Gothenburg is offering a postdoctoral position in biostatistics, epidemiology, medicine, and health economics, hosted by the Institute of Medicine’s School of Public Health and Community Medicine. The position is part of the UGot ReWork interdisciplinary research centre, funded by the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (FORTE). UGot ReWork focuses on sustainable return to work, particularly for individuals on sick leave due to mental health conditions or musculoskeletal pain disorders.

The postdoctoral researcher will join a vibrant, international, and collaborative research environment, working closely with leading experts in economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, general practice, and occupational and environmental medicine. The main research tasks involve conducting high-quality quantitative research using Swedish register data to understand how individual and workplace factors affect work ability and the risk of long-term sickness absence. Responsibilities include data management, statistical analyses, and manuscript preparation, with opportunities to develop independent research within the project’s framework.

Applicants must hold a PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, medicine, health economics, or a closely related field, with preference for those who completed their degree within the last three years (exceptions for special circumstances). Strong skills in quantitative analysis, experience with large-scale register data, and proficiency in statistical software (R, Stata, or similar) are required. Excellent English communication skills and a proven ability to write scientific manuscripts as main author are essential. The position values personal responsibility, collaboration, and a willingness to contribute to the research environment.

The appointment is full-time for 24-36 months, with the possibility of extension depending on funding. The position is fully funded, with individual salary determination. The research group offers a supportive environment for professional development and the opportunity to participate in seminars and collaborative activities. The start date is August 2026 or by agreement, and the application deadline is April 16, 2026.

To apply, submit your application through the University of Gothenburg’s recruitment portal, including your doctoral degree certificate and a cover letter. For more information, visit the official job posting or contact the listed supervisors.
