About this position
This postdoctoral position at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University focuses on the design, fabrication, and testing of bio-inspired drones, drawing inspiration from the aerodynamics and adaptability of natural flyers such as birds and bats. The successful candidate will contribute to the mechanical design, composite fabrication, and experimental validation of UAV structures, with a particular emphasis on integrating morphing wings and additive manufacturing processes to achieve high-performance and energy-efficient drones.
The research will involve CAD/CAE modeling, structural optimization, and the use of advanced simulation tools such as ABAQUS, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL for topology optimization and aerodynamic modeling. Fabrication tasks will include composite layup and 3D printing (FDM/SLA), followed by assembly and calibration of morphing-wing UAV prototypes. The candidate will also prepare and execute aerodynamic, vibration, and endurance testing campaigns, utilizing wind tunnel, fatigue, and flight tests to validate mechanical and aerodynamic performance.
Expected outcomes of the project include the development of a TRL 5 UAV prototype, contributions to three Q1 publications, and involvement in a patent application. The workflow for morphing UAV design will be established at UM6P, providing a strong foundation for future research and innovation in this area.
Applicants should possess an engineering degree (Bac+5) or equivalent in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering, with a solid background in CAD/CAE, structural design, or composite materials. Practical experience in additive manufacturing or mechanical testing is highly desirable. The position requires autonomy, organizational skills, and motivation to work within a multidisciplinary team. Application materials include a CV, cover letter, and one recommendation letter.
This is a 12-month postdoctoral contract with an immediate start date. The position is based at the GSMI/GEP entity of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Benguerir, Morocco. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply promptly via the provided application link.
