About this position

The Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IM PAN) in Warsaw is inviting applications for a two-year postdoctoral position funded by the NCN OPUS grant "Quantum GTA I: Groups, Topology and Algebras," led by Professor Adam Skalski. This research project focuses on the investigation of approximation properties and the structure of state spaces of operator algebras, with particular emphasis on quantum groups as well as classical groups. The project aims to apply and interpret the results within the frameworks of quantum probability and quantum information theory, offering a rich environment for mathematical research at the intersection of algebra, topology, and quantum theory.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant research group at IM PAN, contributing to cutting-edge work in operator algebras and quantum groups. The position is part-time and temporary, starting on October 1st, 2026, and lasting for two years. The selection process will be conducted by a committee chaired by Professor Skalski, and will be completed within 30 days of the application deadline. If no suitable candidate is found, the competition may remain undecided.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent degree in mathematics or a closely related discipline. Prior experience in operator algebras, quantum groups, or related mathematical fields is highly desirable. The position does not specify requirements for language tests or GPA, but candidates should demonstrate strong research potential and the ability to work independently.

To apply, candidates are requested to send the required documents in PDF format to [email protected] with the email subject "NCN Opus Postdoc" by March 1st, 2026 (23:59 CET). For further information about the position or the research project, applicants are encouraged to contact Professor Adam Skalski directly. The Institute of Mathematics PAS is located at Jana i Jędrzeja Śniadeckich 8, 00-656 Warsaw, Poland. More details about the institution and the research group can be found at IM PAN website and Professor Skalski's academic profile.

This opportunity is ideal for early-career researchers seeking to advance their expertise in mathematical physics, functional analysis, and quantum information theory within a leading European research institute. The position is not funded by the EU Research Framework Programme.
