About this position
The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral research fellow position in the field of finance. The Finance Group, which includes the chairs of Corporate Finance (Prof. Tim Adam), Financial Intermediation (Prof. Max Bruche), and Financial Economics (Prof. Alex Stomper), is renowned for its rigorous research and publications in leading academic journals. The group’s research focuses on empirical corporate finance, financial intermediation, and climate finance, offering a vibrant academic environment for scholars interested in these areas.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Corporate Finance and contribute to both teaching and research. Responsibilities include teaching in corporate finance or related areas, conducting independent research projects, and collaborating with faculty members to develop new research initiatives. The position provides access to standard databases through Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) and ample time to advance individual research agendas. Fellows will gain valuable insight into the German university system and experience in raising research funding from German government agencies.
Applicants must have completed a scientific university education and hold a PhD in finance or economics from a non-German university by the start of the fellowship. Strong research interests in corporate finance, financial intermediation, or related fields are essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent econometrics and programming skills, experience with databases, and proficiency in English (C1-equivalent or higher). Knowledge of German is advantageous but not required. The position is scheduled to begin on 1 October 2026.
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is committed to increasing the proportion of women in research and teaching and encourages qualified female scholars to apply. Severely disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration. Individuals with an immigration history are also encouraged to apply.
To apply, submit a single PDF file containing a cover letter explaining your background and research interests, CV, at least two letters of recommendation, a sample research paper, and evidence of teaching effectiveness or academic transcripts.
