Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in Multimodal AI for Data-Driven Prostate Cancer Radiotherapy. This FWO-funded position is based in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Electronics and Information Systems, and is embedded in an ongoing clinical trial at Ghent University Hospital. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Brent van der Heyden, Prof. Valérie Fonteyne (radiation oncologist), and Dr. Evelien Bogaert (medical physics expert), with collaborations involving Prof. Ioulia Tzouvadaki (nanotechnology) and Prof. Mieke Adriaens (electrochemistry).
The research focuses on developing and validating AI-based multimodal data processing algorithms to personalize radiotherapy for prostate cancer patients. The project integrates imaging, clinical, and treatment data into predictive and decision-support models, aiming to facilitate clinical translation and valorization of biosensing and software solutions. The role includes technology maturation, stakeholder engagement, and preparation of funding applications in collaboration with the principal investigator.
Applicants must hold a PhD (or be in the final year of their PhD) in a relevant field such as multimodal big data processing, artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, radiotherapy, or predictive medicine. A strong interest in biosensing technologies is essential. Candidates should demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset, motivation for clinical translation, and strong communication skills. English proficiency at a minimum C1 level (CEFR) is required, evidenced by a recognized certificate or relevant experience. Application documents must be prepared without the use of generative AI.
The position offers a 22-month contract at 100% employment, with remuneration according to salary scale PD1 to PD4.
