About this position

Karolinska Institutet invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Multimodal Neuroimaging and Machine Learning. This interdisciplinary project aims to improve early diagnosis and risk prediction in adolescents with early-onset psychosis, focusing on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The research integrates multimodal neuroimaging with genetic and transcriptomic data, applying machine-learning approaches to identify neural signatures associated with psychosis vulnerability.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will play a central role in scientific development and implementation, working with large-scale neuroimaging and multimodal datasets. Responsibilities include designing and conducting neuroimaging analyses, coordinating data processing pipelines, and performing advanced statistical and computational analyses. You will develop and apply machine-learning and AI-based methods for individual-level risk prediction and diagnostic classification, focusing on disease-relevant neural signatures. Collaboration with clinical and methodological experts is integral, and you will contribute to high-quality scientific publications and presentations. Opportunities exist to pursue independent research questions within the group’s program.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent in neuroscience, neuroimaging, medicine, computational science, physics, statistics, engineering, neuropsychology, or a related field. Strong skills in statistical analysis, programming (Python, MATLAB, R), and quantitative or computational backgrounds are essential. Experience with neuroimaging data analysis (structural and functional MRI) and familiarity with neuroimaging software (SPM, FSL, FreeSurfer, AFNI) are required. Experience with machine learning, multivariate modeling, or data-driven approaches, and interest or experience in integrating neuroimaging with genetic or transcriptomic data, are strong merits. Prior neuropsychiatric research experience is welcome but not required. Effective communication in English and a solid academic track record, preferably with peer-reviewed publications, are expected.
