Postdoctoral Researcher in Marketing (AI & Synthetic Data) 80-100%
The Marketing Group at the University of Basel is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance research on synthetic data in marketing and opinion research. This position is part of an Innosuisse-funded project in collaboration with Boomerang Ideas, SBB, and gfs.bern. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Andrea Bublitz to design, implement, and evaluate large-language-model (LLM) pipelines for synthetic data generation, including fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and prompt engineering. Responsibilities include planning and analyzing survey experiments to validate LLM outputs, developing field studies with industry partners, and publishing research in peer-reviewed journals as well as presenting at international conferences. The role offers protected research time to pursue independent interests and provides access to a research-industry network with unique datasets and real-world cases. The position is fully funded for two years, with the possibility of extension, and includes support for independent projects, conferences, and training. The workplace is located in Basel, Switzerland, and employment is governed by University of Basel regulations. Applicants must have a PhD in Marketing, Business, Analytics, or a related field, with a strong statistical background and proficiency in Python. Fluency in English is required, and preferred qualifications include experience with LLMs (open/closed source), API integration, fine-tuning/RAG, and survey or experimental research.
