SGSAH Doctoral Landscape Award (Collaborative Doctoral Award) – Arts and Humanities PhD Studentship

The SGSAH Doctoral Landscape Award (Collaborative Doctoral Award) at the University of Stirling is a prestigious, fully-funded PhD studentship supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Launching in 2026, this scheme is designed to foster outstanding research in the arts and humanities through collaborative, cohort-based, and interdisciplinary training. The University of Stirling will offer one award as part of this national initiative, enabling a doctoral student to undertake a project in partnership with both the university and a non-academic organization. Eligible research areas span a wide range of disciplines within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, including Digital Media, Film and Media, Journalism, Public Relations, History, Heritage, Political History, Law, Philosophy, Creative Writing, Languages (Chinese, French, Spanish, and Latin American Studies), Translation Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Publishing Studies, and Religion. Interdisciplinary projects are encouraged, provided at least half of the research falls within AHRC-recognized domains. The award covers full university fees at the home rate for 3.5 years, an annual stipend at the UKRI minimum rate (£20,780 for 2025/26), access to a comprehensive training programme, and an individual training allowance for research activities such as internships, placements, international visits, fieldwork, and language learning. Additional funding is available for travel between partner organizations. International students are eligible but must pay the difference between home and international tuition fees. Applicants must not have started their doctoral study or already hold a doctoral qualification. The application process requires collaboration with a Stirling supervisor and a non-academic partner, and proposals must align with AHRC disciplinary requirements. This opportunity is ideal for candidates seeking to advance their research in arts and humanities within a supportive, innovative, and collaborative environment.
