Postdoctoral Positions in Water and Digitalisation at Aalto University

Aalto University’s Water and Environmental Engineering Research Group is offering three postdoctoral positions under the theme "Water and Digitalisation." These positions are part of the Digital Waters (DIWA) Flagship, a leading research and innovation ecosystem focused on digital solutions for water resources measurement, modelling, assessment, planning, and management, including the development of Digital Twins. The research group is multi- and interdisciplinary, promoting sustainable water management through areas such as Water Resources Management, Environmental Hydraulics, Water and Development, and Water and Wastewater Engineering. The three postdoctoral topics are: (1) Watershed modelling and links with digital solutions and Digital Twin creation; (2) River system model data pipelines and Digital Twin creation; (3) Transformative water management through digital solutions. All positions offer the opportunity to engage in innovative, interdisciplinary research and collaborate with experts from various fields. Applicants from water and environmental engineering, hydrology, natural sciences, and geosciences are encouraged to apply. Requirements include a doctoral degree in a relevant field, good command of English, and enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research. Coding skills are required for positions 1 and 2, while Finnish language skills and stakeholder collaboration experience are strong merits for position 3. Prior knowledge of digital twins is a significant asset. Applicants should specify which position(s) they are applying for and their preference. The positions are funded by the Research Council of Finland, with a 1.5-year contract and a starting salary of approximately 4050 €/month (gross), increasing with research progress. The contract includes occupational healthcare, and living in Finland during the contract is compulsory. The university offers a hybrid work model with flexible office hours, and the primary workplace is at the Otaniemi campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. To apply, submit your application through Aalto University's recruitment system by February 20, 2026. Required documents include a motivation letter, CV with referees, publication list, doctoral thesis abstract and link, and a research statement. Indicate your preferred position(s) and relevant skills. Early applications are encouraged as interviews may begin during the application period. For more information, contact Assistant Professor Eliisa Lotsari ([email protected]) regarding the DIWA Flagship positions, or HR partner Sanni Mero ([email protected]) for application questions. Aalto University values diversity and encourages qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
