PhD and MS Graduate Research Assistantships in Analog, Digital, and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits at University of Rhode Island

The Integrated Circuits Design Lab (ICDL) at the University of Rhode Island (URI), Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering, is seeking graduate research assistants (PhD or MS/PhD) to join their team. The research focuses on analog, digital, and mixed-signal integrated circuits, with applications in space and defense missions. Students will engage in all aspects of the research process, including modeling, simulation, circuit design, layout, tapeout, characterization board development, and chip characterization. The lab is located in the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering, a state-of-the-art facility designed for interdisciplinary collaboration and equipped with advanced research tools. Key research areas include integrated circuits, analog and mixed-signal design, FPGA, ASIC, superconducting readout systems, and applications for space and defense. Candidates should have a strong background in integrated circuits design, printed circuit board design, and chip characterization. Experience with Cadence IC design tools (Spectre, Virtuoso, Assura, PVS), Verilog HDL, MATLAB scripts for data processing, and Mentor Calibre tools is required. Excellent writing and communication skills, as well as a strong work ethic, are essential. This position offers full financial support, including tuition, stipend, and benefits. The start date is flexible, with positions available for Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. The University of Rhode Island is located in Kingston, Rhode Island, providing access to major cities like Boston and New York while maintaining a small-town atmosphere. To apply, candidates should send a single PDF containing a cover letter (stating research interests and career goals), a detailed CV (including publications), and unofficial academic transcripts directly to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Keywords: integrated circuits, analog design, mixed-signal circuits, digital circuits, FPGA, ASIC, superconducting readout systems, space missions, defense applications, circuit simulation, chip characterization.
