PhD Student in Molecular Tumor Biology: PU.1 Chromatin Architecture and Leukemia Development

The Institute of Molecular Tumor Biology (IMTB) at University Hospital Münster is seeking a motivated PhD student to join its internationally recognized research team led by Professor Dr. Frank Rosenbauer. The IMTB is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying cell differentiation, tumor development, and immune cell function. The institute employs state-of-the-art experimental approaches, including next-generation sequencing, functional genetic screens, and transgenic model systems, and has a strong publication record in leading journals such as Nature Immunology, Nature Genetics, The EMBO Journal, and Blood. This PhD project centers on the transcription factor PU.1, a pivotal regulator of myeloid and lymphoid cell development. The research will utilize cutting-edge technologies to investigate how three-dimensional changes in PU.1 chromatin architecture influence cell fate decisions and contribute to leukemia development. The project offers an excellent opportunity to gain expertise in molecular tumor biology, epigenetics, and advanced omics methodologies within a collaborative and international research environment. Applicants should have a master’s degree in biology or biochemistry, with practical experience in tissue culture and standard molecular biology techniques. Familiarity with the R programming language and public omics repositories is required, and experience working with laboratory mice is advantageous. Proficiency in English is essential for effective communication and collaboration. Please note that, due to legal requirements, employment is only possible with complete vaccination against measles. The position is offered on a fixed-term basis for three years, part-time at 65%, with a competitive salary according to TV-L E13. University Hospital Münster is committed to equal opportunities and supports the compatibility of work and family life, holding certification as a "Family-friendly Company" since 2010. Applications from women and handicapped candidates are particularly encouraged and will be given preference in cases of equal qualification. To apply, submit your full CV and the names of two referees via the career portal by 25 February 2026. For further information or questions, contact Prof. Frank Rosenbauer at [email protected]. Join us at IMTB and contribute to impactful research in molecular tumor biology!
