Communication
The Department of Communication at the University of Copenhagen is offering a two-year postdoctoral position as part of the FINFLUENCE project, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (Sapere Aude Research Leader program). The project investigates how young adults engage with new actors in the financial space, including influencers, digital platforms, and online communities, and how these compare to traditional opinion leaders such as family, friends, celebrities, and experts. The research aims to understand the appeal and influence of these actors on young investors, particularly in the context of the growing accessibility of financial assets like stocks, cryptocurrencies, and derivatives through digital trading apps. The successful candidate will conduct empirical research on communities organized around everyday finance and household economy, which may be online (e.g., social media) or span both digital and physical contexts (e.g., investment groups). Research methods may include fieldwork, digital ethnography, computational analysis, or a combination thereof, and the empirical material can be collected in Danish, English, or other languages. The postdoc will work both independently and collaboratively with the FINFLUENCE project team. Applicants must have a PhD and prior experience in empirical research on communities or individuals, with a preference for those skilled in both qualitative and quantitative methods. Fluency in academic English is required, while Danish proficiency is advantageous but not mandatory. Application materials must be submitted online in Danish or English and include a letter of motivation, CV, documentation of qualifications, publication list, research plan, and teaching portfolio. The position offers a starting monthly salary of approximately DKK 38,700 (EUR 5,190) plus an 18.07% pension contribution, with potential for annual salary supplements. The University of Copenhagen provides a supportive environment for international researchers and is committed to equality and diversity. The application deadline is 19 October 2025. For further information about the position and the FINFLUENCE project, applicants may contact Associate Professor Jacob Ørmen.
