PhD Research Fellow in Mental Health and Health Services Research

Nord University’s Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences invites applications for a PhD Research Fellow position in the project “ADHD in a life-course perspective: Differences in detection, treatment and serious health outcomes depending on gender, socioeconomic status and place of residence.” The position is based in Levanger, Norway, and offers either a three-year full-time or four-year part-time (with teaching duties) contract. The research will address critical gaps in understanding ADHD diagnosis and treatment, particularly focusing on gender disparities, socioeconomic factors, and health outcomes. The project utilizes both health registry data and focus group interviews to explore personal experiences and the quality of health services for adults with ADHD. Collaboration is central, with partners including Regforsk at NTNU and Deakin University in Australia. The successful candidate will join the research group “Health Services and Public Health” and benefit from a structured PhD programme, international research opportunities, and regular academic seminars. Supervision will be provided by Professor Ottar Bjerkeset (Nord University), Associate Professor Ivana Bojanic (Nord University), and Professor Johan H. Bjørngaard (NTNU). The position is fully funded according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale (NOK 550,800+), with pension and insurance benefits. The working environment is described as creative, collegial, and flexible, with additional perks such as sports associations and proximity to beautiful nature. Applicants must have a master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum average grade of B, meet all requirements for admission to the PhD programme in Professional Studies, and demonstrate good English skills. Understanding Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is advantageous but not required. Candidates with a prior PhD are not eligible. Selection criteria include academic background, motivation, research experience, clinical experience in mental health, quantitative skills, and personal suitability. International applicants must provide certified translations of diplomas and, if from outside the EU/EEA, NOKUT recognition of their master’s degree. To apply, submit your application electronically via Jobbnorge, including a motivation letter, CV, diplomas, master’s thesis, and contact details for referees. The deadline is 9 April 2026. For further information, contact Professor Ottar Bjerkeset or Professor Johan H. Bjørngaard. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful research in mental health and health services at a leading Norwegian institution.
